My name is Marla Kurzec and I live and work in Jamestown, North Carolina. I am a full time professional artist, specializing in photo realism, and hyper realistic portraiture. I have been working professionally since 1999 with many satisfied clients from all around the world. I have spent many hours with all kinds of different subjects, pets, birds, horses, people. I love to hear their story, their anecdotes, all the things that will bring me closer to my subject and create a unique and special portrait come to life.
I am self taught in pastel and alcohol ink painting, and have dabbled in metalwork, sculpture, jewelry making, and stained glass.
I work in several different mediums, such as acrylics, pastels, and alcohol inks, which enable my customers to choose the medium they want their art created in.

I work in several different mediums, such as acrylics, pastels, and alcohol inks, which enable my customers to choose the medium they want their art created in.
Pastels are almost pure pigment with minimal binder and hence contain the highest concentration of pigment of any medium. They are a colored drawing medium and are made to form a stick. Pastels are produced in soft, hard and pencil form.
Acrylic paints are fast-drying paints made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion. Most acrylic paints are water-based, but become water-resistant when dry. I use acrylics on canvas boards and stretched canvas.
Alcohol inks are fast-drying, highly pigmented, alcohol-based dyes that are great to use on any hard, non-porous surface. The substrates I primarily paint alcohol inks on are Yupo paper, (a man-made synthetic paper), and glossy ceramic tiles. Alcohol ink is waterproof, adding to its durable properties. These dye-based inks are transparent and extremely vibrant.
I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
I enjoy boating, dog sitting for my grand pups, gardening, and photography.
Wildlife, classic automobiles, barns, wild and farm animals, and rural American landscapes are just some of the subjects that inspire me.
